With Halloween coming up I was inspired to create some Ghastly Children. This is Grinning Gilbert complete with ice pick and bone saw…
This was drawn with Sakura Microns.
I am an Edward Gorey fan so these children are also inspired by Gorey’s character designs. For inspirational reference I also used Albert Racinet’s, ‘The Historical Encyclopedia of Costumes,’ with the specific plate shown below. This is a really good book that depicts lots of great costumes.
WHAT A CUTE AND GREAT DRAWINGS :)

SOPORTAS
Heya.
I’ve just noticed you’ve linked to me.
I shall return the favour as soon as I’ve got a sec!
Nice work btw.
Gronky below is a 3D CG character, yes?
soportas, I’ll try and send you a door photo, thanks for stopping by.
elliot, hello :)
Thanks ever so much for the positive feedback and for visiting. And yes, Gronky is 3D.
I like that it looks like a puppet rather than a CG character.
This is something that’s very important to me.
elliot, thanks! I’d like to think that Gronky was inspired by some of the wonderful animated and puppet characters I used to watch as kid.
These have a wonderful feel. Much like the charm of a wood block print. Great shapes too.
